Although it’s certainly beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our area, it’s definitely not your usual holiday season. Like everything else in 2020, our normal festivities had to be changed. Some have been cancelled, others have moved online while still others have been dramatically altered.
Like this year’s Owen Sound Santa Claus parade. In order to avoid the huge crowds that usually descend on downtown Owen Sound, this year’s parade was moved to the Bayshore Community Centre where a few floats and Santa stayed still and the people came to them. Although the line to get there was long, it was clear from the looks on the children’s faces, it was worth it.
Another annual celebration is our Festival of Northern Lights. Although we are lucky to still have the lights to walk through, the grand opening celebration with fireworks had to be cancelled. Instead, the city of Owen Sound decided to stage some fireworks at Victoria Park for people to see from all over the city. The display was also meant to honour the 100th anniversary of Owen Sound’s incorporation as a city.
But despite the changes we have had to make, our wonderful city continues to shine with many in our community putting up more lights than ever for all to enjoy.
And, as always, our traditional Noma lights welcome all to downtown Owen Sound.
Season’s Greetings! And all the best in the new year.
