Having just survived our first heat wave of the summer and, according to Environment Canada, about to enter our second soon, Wanda and I thought we would share some of our favourite places to beat the heat: Our favourite swimming holes.

We, or I, interrupt our new regularly scheduled broadcast for this important message. We can once again paddle in and around the Owen Sound area as our local boat launches are now open and our beaches are beginning to re-open…with physical distancing guidelines in place.
Summerfolk
Every year, on the third weekend of August, you will find thousands of people listening, dancing, singing, eating, drinking, THCing, swimming and many other -ings on the shores of Georgian Bay. This annual Owen Sound event that draws so many is the Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival (locally know as “Summertoke”:)) and I have had the honour to know it now for over 25 years.
Summer Festivals
The opening weekend of July, I had my first opportunity to take in and photograph the Mariposa Folk Festival in Orillia, Ontario, which is approaching its 60th year in existence. It was a beautiful weekend filled with fantastic music, lovely art, and delicious food. I’ve been told that it is considered the first festival of the summer festival season.
