My apologies for another late blog post. It’s amazing how quickly summer can get away from you. One minute you’re celebrating Canada Day, the next you’re getting ready for Summerfolk. Which around these areas signals the beginning of the end of summer. For many, Summerfolk is followed by the Fish Tent (at the Salmon Spectacular), then Labour Day – and that’s it.
Another reason summer seems to fly by is because even on days where you expect nothing to happen, often something does. Like this past Sunday. After my family spent a relaxing week at a cottage on Haliburton Lake, we all headed off home. In my case that meant taking my youngest daughter back to London and then the return drive north to Leith. By the time I was home, it was an 8 hour day. So, this combined with the usual cottage hangover, made me think Sunday would be a “do nothing” day.
But even before I had a chance to relax, I had read about a triathlon being held in Owen Sound the next day. Thinking this would be a great opportunity for some drone photos, I couldn’t resist getting up and being ready for the 9 am start. I was glad I went as the conditions were great – apparently, they were much worse later in the day.
I had also learned earlier in the week that the Saugeen Pow Wow’s final day was Sunday. So after arriving home and relaxing for maybe an hour tops, we were off again to Southampton. The Pow Wow was more than worth it. As someone who finds both traditions and Indigenous beliefs fascinating, the dancing and regalia easily captivated me and my camera for hours.
After the Pow Wow we went to one of our favourite Southampton restaurants, The Walker House, for Linner (Lunch + Dinner) as I refer to it. And then stopped in to see my parents at Chesley Lake on the way home. By the time we were in our chairs ready to relax, it was almost 6pm. Longer than a regular day. But well worth it.
