The Beauty of Snow Days
One of the best things about living in Owen Sound and area is that no matter where you are you are not far from a winter activity. Skiing, skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, winter surfing and many others can be found in different corners of the area.
However, there is one key ingredient needed for all these wonderful activities - snow. Thankfully, snow is another one of our specialties, especially during snow squall season, which we are in now. For those of you who may not know what a snow squall is, here is an excellent explanation.
Just last week, we had another chance to appreciate the power of these squalls as they shut down almost every road in the area. You might be thinking, why is he telling me this? Isn't this a bad thing?
I guess it depends how you look at it. For most, a real snow day is something special. It is a day to spend at home with the family. Or it is a day to go exploring with the dog.
Or a day to help your neighbour dig out.
Or a day to make homemade ice bocce balls to play in the snowy laneway.
Or, if you are like me, a day to photograph the beauty of the squall.
And after they are done, they often leave behind even more beauty.
Perhaps what I wrote on my own blog on the actual snow day sums it up best:
I love how the snow insulates us from the noise of the outside world. It's like Mother Nature is trying to soften the harshness around us.
I hope you get a chance to enjoy the softness of a snow belt snow day.
