|Last night, my wife and I had a last minute outing with some new friends who just purchased a home near us from Wanda (about whom they can not say enough good things). Originally, we only planned supper, but as we messaged back and forth, we remembered that the Tom Thomson Art Gallery Movie series was on that afternoon. As we all love movies, our plans quickly morphed into a movie matinee followed by supper.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at the planned restaurant, we learned that they had closed due to some unforeseen circumstances. However, rather than this causing panic, it provided an opportunity to think about what they should experience.
We considered Kettles and Mudtown Station, but they had already experienced both. Then we remembered the Europa, a staple in Owen Sound for generations. As we thoroughly enjoyed our souvlaki, Greek salads, Greek fries and Baklava, Achilles, the owner of the Europa, shared his love of Owen Sound with his new, and soon to be, returning customers.
This got me thinking about Owen Sound and its landmarks. Which places are my favourites? Which places are must tries for guests and visitors? Below are some of my favourite Owen Sound landmarks. These are the places that I think of when I hear the name Owen Sound.
Before I offend someone by leaving them off, let me say that these are not all of my favourites. Some not in this list have been mentioned before or are maybe a little too new to be landmarks yet (Mudtown Station, Casero, Heartwood Hall, The Bleeding Carrot), some are more personal (Foto Art), and some I simply have not captured with my camera, but hope to soon.
Please feel free to add to my list. I would love to know what your Owen Sound must-sees are.
